Natural Environment

Odrzywol Commune is localised within the lowlands of Poland. This territory is rich in fields of sands, gravel and stone used for hardening of local roads. The amount of sand is rather hard to estimate, as they practically occur on the whole area of the commune. One of diagnosed and measured fields is field "Klonna" - whose stock is about 3200 thousands of tonnes and covers the area of 9,6 ha. This field is situated on the protected land and that is why it is unexploited. Fields of gravel and stone protrude in such resorts as: Debowa Gora, Dabrowa, Stanislawow and Rozanna.


Climate

Odrzywol Commune lies in transitional climatic zone, among lowlands and highs.

Wide valley of Pilica river has a big influence on climatic conditions of the area- particularly thermal and wet conditions. Prevailing part of the region has advantageous climatic conditions to the development of settlement and agriculture. In the neighborhood of local forests there are favorable climatic conditions for the development of recreation, including holiday construction.


Rivers and reservoirs

Odrzywol Commune is situated by two rivers: Pilica and Drzewiczka. Through its territory also runs two small rivers: Korczanka and Kielcznica.

In the area there are also situated two retention headers. The surface of the first one is 3,5 ha. Kielcznica river flows to this retention header in Legonice Male.
Second retention header is localized in Odrzywol. Its surface is 5,5 ha. This header fulfills recreational function. Drzewiczka river flows to this header.



Vegetation

Abundance and richness of local vegetation results from the location of the commune, which is an integral part of protected landscape of Pilica and Drzewiczka valleys. Particularly it is possible to admire the beauty of Pilica valley due to numerous viewing points, from which you can observe wonderful panorama that spreads on wide river route. There are also fragments of rare trees here. Rare species of plants grow on the northern riverside. The southern riverside is mostly covered by forests, which are the residue of old forest complexes.

Meadows occupy 6,6% of the commune's surface. Greater fragments of drainaged meadows are situated near Kolonia Myslakowice, in the east of Wielkopole and in the west of Rozanna.

Forests in Drzewiczka valley in the west of Brzeski village, so called "Moczary Osica" and some fragments of meadows situated near Wielkopole are the territories that differs in botanical conditions from the rest of the region. Rich fauna and numerous endangered species were also localised near Legonice Male.


Forests

Local forests occupy surface of 2200 ha, that represents 22,40% of the whole commune's surface. Dominant here are young forests whose age does not surpass 40 years. In regard to ownership, prevailing are private forests. The most extensive forest complexes are placed in northern part of the commune. Superiority among trees leads pine - 80%

First of all, local forests advantageously affect local climate, quality of soil as well as biological balance. The most often you can met here dry and fresh forests.

Soil of V and VI are prevailing in the commune and they represent 52%. Unfortunately they qualify only to planting forests. It is planned to cover the surface of 16 ha with forest.

In Kolonia Ossa there is a very old pine, which was qualified as the monument of nature. The tree is 350 years old and its circumference is 360 centimetres..


Reservations

High natural values of the commune have been confirmed by the accession to the protected landscape of Pilica and Drzewiczka valleys. There is differentiated landscape with differing ecosystems, what create capability to fulfill all needs connected with tourism and refreshment.

In Odrzywół Comuune there is a reservation called "Przerwa". In northern part of the commune the reservation include fragment of river's corridor along with island. The whole field of designed reservation has been placed in borders of two protected areas - OChK Pilica and Drzewiczka valleys and Spalski Park Krajobrazowy.


Protection of typical animals

In Odrzywol Commune there live at least 28 species of mammals. 11 species are legally protected. There live also 141 species of birds, from what 132 species are protected. Three species have been placed in Polish Red Book. Out of reptiles on the commune;s territory lives only lizards
